Midi Controllers

Postby Wiggles_Malibu » Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:44 pm

I'm sure it's been bought up before but I couldn't find anything when searching...
Do any of you lot recommend a midi controller? I'm taking the step from 1210's to laptop DJing.. I'm about 10years behind I know... A midi life crises... Anyway I understand Traktor is the preferred software of choice.. I'm looking at various controllers, anything between £120 - £250, not a lot I know but just wanna get started with something that's not going to feel too cheap or fall apart too soon...Or do I need to spend more? I have no idea..

Any help appreciated.

X1 is really good...

But it *is* just a controller.

Need to factor in your soundcard as well

Traktor really is the weapon of choice...

Im sure if you buy any NI hardware, you can upgrade the software for a song :)
There's the Bass Drum.
The Snare Drums.
Crash Cymbal.
Open and closed Hi Hats.
Tom Toms.
(and more importantly) WARM PADS.

Have you already got the software?

If not you can buy NI traktor hardware and software for the following

Full version:
599,00 €

http://www.native-instruments.com/#/pro ... ontrol-s2/

Alternatively you can use traktor scratch with vinyl timecode, so you can play normal vinyl alongside digital

Full version:
599,00 €

http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/ ... tch-pro-2/

If you don't want to commit yet you can try trial versions without hardware of most brands or just go open source free..

Not a midi controller and maybe should've been posted in the 'things you really want' thread, but I've got to have one of these for the iPad.

Whoosh - nearly half the price of an iPad  Be interesting to see if many think an app is worth it...

wow - looks great but that's pricey for an app? I got the Korg iMS20 app for the iPad, which is very impressive but ultimately does feel like its limited by being on an iPad...

It's not an app. You get the hardware. Its like the controller part of an MPC with a case, and your ipad sits in the upper part of the case. The hardware then plugs into the pad.
