Jim, who's that Italian bloke that Rapha that was a big coke user, got excommunicated and all sorts? I'd like to read the book.

The beakhead was Pantani, I heard this morning that the makers of Senna are making him their next subject which will be fucking ace. The one who got excommunicated was Coppi. I have books on both if you wanna borrow, the Pantani in particular is amazing.

Il Pirata! The film looks ace and the book is next on my list. As soon as you take an interest in cycling I think you naturally begin to appreciate the Italians obsession with the sport. I'm reading Pedalare! Pedalare! which makes you realise just how sadistic the Giro used to be - 450km stages on single gear bikes in freezing conditions, full of pictures like this of Magni chewing innertube to distract from a broken collarbone.

As for books, funnily enough BlockUp put me onto Pedalare! Pedalare! Herbie Sykes' Maglia Rosa is another great Giro history.
